The cake

I had good intentions of blogging about Cooper's party and of course the number 5 racing car cake over the weekend but after Saturday afternoons bowling party I was absolutely exhausted yesterday. Goodness knows why because all I had to do was make the cake and turn up with the boys. It's the first time I've even entertained the thought of not having a house party but this year Cooper was adamant he was having a bowling party and I really didn't mind. It was less stressful not having to worry about making all the party food. And I'm one of those entertainers who always over caters. Plus I was able to walk away after the party and not have to worry about the mess. Now that's my kind of party.

I'll post some party photos tomorrow when I get then from my Dad as I didn't take many on my iPhone but I managed to get a few of the cake coming together which I can share.

The cake I made and iced myself but I can't take credit for the gorgeous racing cars. My super talented girlfriend Renee from Strawberry Jam Cakes over in WA posted these over for me. So if you're in the Perth area check out her cakes here and you can also find her on Facebook. She's amazing.

Cooper was so in love with the cake and was even hesitant to cut in to it. I must admit so was I.

Craft Nook and some motivation for the weekend ahead

I recently joined Pinterest, I'm still very new to it and to be honest I'm not really sure I even know what I'm doing. So if you're a pro some tips would be great.

Anyway one of the first photos I came across was this one *drools*

Above image from here

I've been thinking a lot lately about possibly being able to buy my own place next year which is uber exciting so I've been dreaming of all things house design. I'd really love to build as both of the two houses I've ever owned we built but I'm just not sure its doable on my own so I'll probably buy established. I've been dreaming about having a room just for me and not one in which I sleep. A room with one wall covered in bookshelves, my own mini library. A corner for all my craft goodness, see above. And I would kill for a window bench seat with a view and storage underneath. And of course a space just for me to meditate or enjoy yoga again. Ahhhh dreams are free.....

What are your plans for the weekend? We have Cooper's bowling party on Saturday afternoon so I'll be spending Saturday morning finishing off the cupcakes and of course making his birthday cake. But I also want some much needed down time to get back in to a book I started a few weeks back but I haven't touched it since. I discovered this book a few months back when I was shopping with my sister in law down at Burleigh Heads and we discovered this awesome little organic shop and I just had to have this book and I'm dying to finish it.

I also came across this during the week. It's the motto for my life at the moment. I think I'll print it out and put it on the fridge.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, with whatever you have planned.

Nothing like some pampering to brighten your week

I have just had one of those weeks. You know the ones where it doesn't seem like anything is going your way. Well apart from it being my darling Cooper's birthday this week.

It all started on Monday when I woke up feeling off and Cooper wasn't himself either so he had his first 'sickie' from school. We had a lazy home day and all the things I wanted to get done didn't happen. By that afternoon my iPhone had died and I ended up in the Apple shop praying that I hadn't lost all my data. Yes I was a very naughty girl and hadn't backed up in months. So I lost over 800 photos, hundreds of contacts plus over a months worth of calendar entries so all my appointments that I've got coming up. But I guess on the plus side the nice young guy from Apple who should have charged me the $250 for a replacement phone must have been having a good day because he replaced it at no charge. Gotta love that! Moral of the story never let your 'sick' child play with your phone whilst trying go make cupcakes.

Then on Tuesday I woke in a lot of pain, well a worse pain than usual so those 24 cupcakes that I was supposed to decorate didn't happen and I had to cheat and I did a mercy dash to buy some. I changed the fondant flowers over to some tractor toppers and the kids still loved them at school. But I was just so disappointed that I couldn't do the ones I'd planned but I'll do them for his party on Saturday.

So it was a massive relief to realise my hair appointment was for today. I love my few hours at the hairdressers every 6 weeks. It's my one treat to myself and I always have the best time. Only today was my gorgeous hairdressers last day as she's heading back to Melbourne to live. Mind you the other two girls, one being the owner of the salon are equally as good. But I'll miss Jade. She always made my hairdressing appointments so much fun with her funny stories and bubbly personality. My last hairdresser left last year to go back to Sweden so I've had a bad run of luck. I've told the owner April to make sure she finds someone who isn't going anywhere this time. So today I enjoyed 3 hours of pampering, sipping on tea, reading some trashy magazines and having a good gossip with my girls.

And I got the guts up to go even shorter with my cut. What do you think? That's me in the grey, second from left hahaha!!

So what's your pamper time? Do you take time out for yourself? A monthly pedicure, a massage or are you like me and treat yourself to a haircut now and then?

Today certainly brightened up my week.

Happy 5th Birthday my darling boy

To my little, well not so little anymore Cooper Scooper.
I still can't comprehend that you're already five. It's been such a pleasure watching you grow in to the gorgeous young man that you are today.
This time 5 years ago I remember vividly laying in bed in the hospital just staring at you. All the visitors had left for the night and there was no way I was sleeping. I was exhausted because I hadn't slept the night before but I couldn't possibly close my eyes as they were fixated on this gorgeous bundle of joy that I had brought in to this world. I still had so much adrenaline pumping through my body and I remember laying there studying your delicate little face. I was in awe at creating such a perfect little baby. How could you be mine? What did I do to deserve such perfection. I was so in love from the moment our eyes locked after they laid you on my chest. A love that I never knew existed. You still make my heart race and skip a beat with pride. Just like this afternoon watch you doing your show and tell. And watching you blow out your candles on the cupcakes I brought in for you to share with your school friends and how you made sure everyone in the class had theirs before you took yours. And then tonight when you came home from footy Mummy's heart melted when I found out you'd got an award for great team spirit on only your second time playing football. Boy am I proud of you kiddo.

I love you to the moon and back a trillion times buddy.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never no dear how much I love you..........

I just wanted to share some photos of my big 5 year olds day.

His stash of goodies all set up this morning. You should have seen his face when he saw his guitar, priceless.

Still half asleep but rocking it out. Excuse the dodgy iPhone photos.

He wanted to take it for show & tell

Cupcakes for school

All ready for footy in his new boots that Daddy bought for him

Ready to head out for dinner..... my boys just melt me.

My first born is turning 5

Tomorrow is Cooper's 5th birthday.

I'm still in shock that I'm going to have a five year old. Where have these five years gone. You've grown in to such an amazing little boy with such an affectionate and kind nature who loves anything to do with car racing, motorbikes, football and music. I can't wait to see your face light up tomorrow when you see the guitar mummy has bought for you. Or the football boots that Daddy has got you.

I love you so much my darling little boy. All those sleepless nights have been worth it. I'm so lucky to be able to call you my son. It's certainly a privilege to be your Mumma.

Now I better get back to decorating those two dozen cupcakes that I'm making to take in to prep tomorrow for your little celebration at school.

Five amazing years later........

Lazy Sunday tomorrow

Nothing beats a lazy Sunday, don't you think?

I am so looking forward to relaxing and pottering around my place tomorrow.
I've had a busy day which started really lovely as I got to chat with my closest friend who happens to live thousands of miles away in the US. It totally sucks because I wish he was closer. But I always leave our conversations feeling uplifted, positive, beaming with a smile and feeling so much better about myself. It's just awesome. Awwww melt, pity he's so far away :-(
Then I had a bowling birthday party with Cooper for one of his school friends. It was actually at the same place we're having Cooper's party next weekend.
Then I finished off the day spending some time with good friends for my girlfriends birthday BBQ. I was supposed to meet a few friends out for drinks later but I had to bail on them because my back was just too sore. Story of my life. But I'm actually enjoying being home snugged up in my winter pj's and cup of tea in hand. Now I sound like a Nanna don't I ? The boys are at their Dads so I'm taking full advantage of some quiet alone time.

So my lazy Sunday plan is to get up early and head to the markets for some fresh fruit and veggies and hopefully some fresh flowers. I love nothing more than having fresh flowers in the house. In fact my dream man would buy me fresh flowers every week, now wouldn't that be nice? I love orchids as I'm sure you've already read but I'm also very partial to lillies, frangipanis, tulips oh and of course peonies. The romantic inside me in drawn to Peonies. I think they're so pretty, feminine and romantic. I wonder if I can find any like this tomorrow?

Aren't they stunning. They just scream romance.

So I'm going to stock my fridge with fruit and veggies for the week and hopefully fill my house with fresh flowers then it's potter time. I want to organise my ensuite as I paid a visit to Ikea and Howards Storage World during the week and I've finally found the solutions to my storage problem in the ensuite. I might even take photos and blog about it haha! I also want to tackle my kitchen bench with the goodies I found at Kikki K, boy do I love that shop. That's been the biggest problem going from a 30 square home to a small villa, storage. I have none and I'm a little bit of an organisational nazi and I like everything to have it's place. So my bills and the piles of paperwork that comes home from school and kindy will finally have a home. I really do miss my study.

So that's my plan for tomorrow. Oh plus I need to finish off my nephews birthday present and if I have time make a start on those two dozen cupcakes I have to make to take to school on Tuesday for Cooper's birthday.

Actually it doesn't like a lazy Sunday at all but I'm really looking forward to it. I love pottering around my new place. Making it my own.

What are your plans for Sunday?

This week I'm grateful for.....

I'm grateful for two things this week. Is that greedy?

Having such a horrid few months of pain with my back I don't think I'll ever take for granted the little things ever again. After my operation I have a list a mile long of the things I want to accomplish but in the meantime I'm learning not to take anything for granted.

So this week because my pain has been under control I've been feeling a lot more in control. So little things like walking Cooper up those two flights of stairs to his Prep classroom hasn't been such a big deal. In fact it's been awesome. So I'm grateful that this week I have been able to walk him up every day without having to get one of the other Mums to take him up.

It's like an accomplishment just getting to the top. Especially on days I have Blake with me. We even managed to get a happy snap in the cubby house outside his classroom.

I know I'm bias, but how cute are those faces? I'm so grateful to be their Mum. Excuse the dodgy out of focus iPhone photo.

I was also grateful to be able to watch my big boy play his first 'game' of football when we signed him up for Auskick this week. They don't play a game as such. It's more about learning ball skills, coordination and learning about team spirit. I was so proud of him. And he absolutely loved it. He was beaming afterwards. So now our Tuesday afternoons will be spent at Auskick.

I'm linking up with Maxabella loves. What are you grateful for this week?

Buttons, oh how I love thee

These beauties are going to finish off a project I started almost a month ago. Something I'm making for my gorgeous nephew for his birthday. Note- his birthday was in April. I'm the worst aunty in the world :-( I guess life has been a little out of whack lately but still, no excuses. So I'm not sure if you read my blog Vik but I promise Hamish's present will be in the post next week.

The worst part is that we promised each other we'd be better this year with presents and I've failed epically already, oops!

I suck at keeping new years resolutions.

Some of my new favourite things

It's wet and miserable here today but nothing is going to dampen my mood today. It's a good day. Considering how bad my pain has been these last few months I've actually had a really good week. I've been more active this week than I have been for months. I even managed to squeeze in an Ikea trip in to search for some frames. I had no luck with the frames but I met a girlfriend whom I haven't seen in ages up there so it wasn't a wasted trip. Plus I also bought some much needed storage containers as I'm in desperate need of better storage. Going from a 30sq home to this rather modest villa hasn't been easy to adjust to for quite a few reasons. One being I have no storage, it's shocking. So I'm having to get creative. More on that another day.

So being pretty much house bound and some days bed ridden I've spent way too much time online and way too much money indulging in online shopping.

I have found much comfort in Etsy these last few months but my poor bank balance isn't enjoying the shopping as much as I am that's for sure.

I love anything handmade and I'd much rather support a WAHM or small business over the multinational companies any day. Don't you love how I'm justifying my purchases.

Although I am a sucker for handmade goodies. There's just something so much nicer about them don't you think?

So check out some of my latest goodies.

These gorgeous 'Damask' pillowcases from Pillowmio on Etsy I just had to have. Not just because they've got the damask pattern but also because they go so well with my new bedroom. I'm turning my room in to a sanctuary just for me. I'll share some pictures once I'm all done. But please check out their Etsy store because she does some lovely pillowcases for very reasonable prices.

I also fell in love with this gorgeous iPad cover from Seaside Sew isn't it lovely. Are you detecting a theme? I really am obsessed aren't I ? Maybe I need to see someone about it because I don't think it's healthy. You wait and see the fabric I've got coming from the US. Then you really will worry. Hi my name is Rebekah and I'm addicted to Damask. Check out all the cool iPhone and iPad covers on her Etsy store. So.... much nicer than the cheap plastic ones you can get in the shops. See handmade is so much nicer. Also an as an added bonus for my lovely readers Natalie is offering 10% off any purchases from her store. How nice is that? Simply use the discount code 'PROMO10' on checkout. Thanks Natalie. I think your work speaks for itself.

Now this I just love. When I came across this clever Brisbane designers work I fell in love. And especially with this piece as I sing this song to my boys every night at bedtime so I wanted to frame it for their playroom or maybe bedroom. I still haven't found the perfect frame but I'll be sure to update with photos once it's on the wall and framed. Check out Kathy's store on Etsy here - Kathy Panton. Isn't her stuff gorgeous. I really want the elephant oh and the bird. I have a real thing for birds at the moment. Hence the new blog design.

Now these beauties I didn't actually discover on Etsy. A friend of mine posted a photo of her wearing one of these stunning headbands on Facebook and that's how I discovered Glasshouse Designs. Her jewellery is just beautiful and I have a real thing for pretty but different headbands. The problem is I now want one in every colour. And how gorgeous are these earrings. They're great if you want to add a pop of colour to an outfit. I've had plenty of compliments already. You might need to send me some business cards to hand out Annie because people just love them. I also bought my goddaughter some lovely little Bobby pin clips but I forgot to get a photo of them before I gave them to her. Annie also has a Facebook page . But I am warning you it's a very tempting shop.

And of course I needed a cute little jewellery box to store my new earrings in so when I heard one of my favourite stores were having a sale I scored myself a bargain at Tree of Life. I think this beauty set me back all of $4.00. Isn't it lovely. It looks great with all my other trinkets I've collected over the years in the buffet on my bedroom. I love how feminine and girly my room is now that I'm living on my own.

So make sure you check out these awesome stores and support WAHM's.
Tell them Beck sent you ;-)

Where has everything gone?

Damn you blogger!!!

I can access my blog again, obviously. But where is my last post?
And more importantly where is my brand new bog design? I'm so mad at you right now. All of Danni's hard work and it's gone Arrgghh. So not fair. I'm not impressed.

I'm up at 5-30am because my back is giving me grief and I was at least hoping everything would be back to normal.

Did everyone else lose there last post before Blogger went down?
